Agriculture and Fisheries:
The agriculture and fisheries sector has equally witnessed
remarkable growth, covering major farming regions such as
Helayu, Manama, Masfout and Mazaira. In these regions large
farms have been set up producing a variety of Agriculture
and Fisheries, the Municipality is providing technical assistance
to the farmers, helping them with livestock breeding and well
as expansion of arable lands.
Ajman is also the base for units producing, processing and
exporting variety of fish and seafood to many Asian and European
countries.
Telecommunication:
On the threshold of the 21st century, Etisalat is providing
an advanced infrastructure, including state-ofart technology
in terms of telecommunication equipment and networks. Since
its foundation in September 1976, Etisalat took the lead in
initiating development in telecommunication, thereby providing
quality communication services, including telephone services,
data exchange, T.V. cabling and other services throughout
Ajman and the UAE.
Etisalat has recently introduced digital technology to all
local exchanges. Local and global telecommunication services
have been boosted by an advanced fiber optic network, which
provides huge capacity for communication and ensure a high
degree of performance and efficiency. This step has placed
the UAE in the forefront of those states employing fiber optic
technology. This project, which started in 1986, provides
a communication capacity of nearly 30,000 channels in a single
optic fiber. The fiber optic network presently consists of
60,000 kms/optic fiber, stretching all over the country, including
onshore and offshore areas.
It is appropriate to refer here to the achievement of Etisalat
in the field of underwater cable laying and maintenance. This
has resulted in the UAE being the only state in the Middle
East to have a modern cable laying ship which carries out
complete marine survey, installation and onshore & offshore
maintenance of sea cable system regionally and in adjacent
countries. Etisalat has recently launched its second cable
laying ship, Umm Al Anber with the first job undertaken by
the new ship of lying the Gulf sea cable Fiber Optic
Gulf (fog) in mid-February 1997.
Health Care & Medical Services:
The Emirate of Ajman is adopting a scientific method for handing
health services and has worked out the legal framework for
providing adequate services in this respect. For this purpose
the government has successfully created a healthy environment
for national and residents of the Emirate.
As for medical care, there are two main hospitals and three
public clinics under the management of the ministry of health
and medical services department. There are several private
clinics providing medical services to the residents of Ajman.
T.V Station:
Ajman T.V station aims to enchance the march of progress
in the UAE and enrich the cultural sector. UHF channel 24
and 26 were allocated for the stations local and satellite
programmers. Ajman Station is called Channel4
and has gained a wide popularity locally and abroad as a result
of interesting programmes including cultural, entertainment
and drama as well as live coverage of important events.
