Premier League Favourites For 2020/21
Dubai has one of the biggest Premier League followings anywhere in the world, with the emirate’s population flocking in masses to watch the greatest football league on planet earth. Next season promises to be as memorable as any, with Liverpool taking Manchester City’s crown – albeit in strange and controversial circumstances.
Here we assess 4 of the top contenders for next season.
Man City
The best footballing side in the world, Manchester City, go into next season as the favourites to lift the trophy again. They’re a general priced 1/1 with most bookmakers, although they’re odds on with some, and odds against with just two. All sign up offers for William Hill appear to be the most popular for punters, given their market leading price of 21/10 for the City success – something which looks incredible value given their signings of Ferran Torres and Nathan Ake. Despite losing legend David Silva, Expect City to come back much stronger than they were last season – after all, they have the best player in the league, and the best midfielder in the world – Kevin de Bruyne.
Liverpool
A somewhat tainted league win last season – a 3 month break, no fans in the stadiums for the concluding period of the season, who knows what would have happened had the season been finished properly, especially given their history of collapsing with large leads. Liverpool are priced at 7/4 to repeat their ‘success’ of 2020, with some bookies offering a best priced 15/8. With no major signings through the door, and star midfielder Gini Wijnaldum linked with joining up with new Barca coach, Ronald Koeman – we believe that the value is elsewhere.
Man Utd
One of the most hit and miss sides in the Premier League – Man Utd could go on an 8 game winning run, or indeed they could go 8 games without winning. It’s this lack of consistency which renders them almost impossible to back at a general priced 9/1 for the PL title. A fearsome front four of Fernandes, Martial, Rashford and Greenwood, but a shaky defence and a goalkeeper who looks like a fraction of the superstar he once was – perhaps their 8/13 for top 4 and CL qualification looks a more sensible bet.
Chelsea
The outsiders of the 4 teams mentioned here, Chelsea represent perhaps the biggest value. Priced at a general 12/1 for success – the Blues have had one of the best transfer windows in Premier League history. The acquisitions, or impending acquisitions of Werner, Ziyech, Havertz, Chilwell and Thiago Silva looks an absolute masterstroke from Frank Lampard. Silva will shore up the defence, Chilwell will offer width on the left, and the trio of Werner, Ziyech, Havertz, combined with the brilliance of Pulisic will surely see this price shorten both before the season starts, as well las during it.
