2009 Dubai Terry Fox Run Date Announced
Mamzar Park once again set for the Emirate’s foremost charity fundraising event.The grounds outside Mamzar Park will once again host the highly popular Dubai Terry Fox Run, with the 2009 run date set for December 11th starting at 09.30.Despite a slightly longer than usual gap between events, organisers are confident the sixteenth staging of the run will still attract thousands, reinforcing its status as one of the Emirate’s foremost charity fundraising events.
Incoming chairman of the organising committee, Dave Barette, thanked all the local authorities and the Dubai Police for their full cooperation in once again making Mamzar Park area available, stating that it provides a safe and spectacular backdrop for everyone taking part.
“There will be a few minor modifications following feedback from the last run, which will ensure we can safely accommodate the thousands of loyal supporters - and many more new ones -–who we are confident will turn up next month,” he said.
“The beauty of one of Dubai’s most stunning parks, offering dramatic seas views provides a fantastic backdrop to the run, while a key ingredient, an abundance of parking ensures easy access for all.”
The Terry Fox Run is a family-oriented, fun-filled morning that welcomes all members of the community. Participants can walk run bicycle, rollerblade, use their wheelchairs or strollers along the 4.6km to 8.4km route.
The event is non-competitive and organized completely by volunteers with all supplies donated by local supporters. There is no registration fee, no minimum donation and 100 per cent of the funds raised support cancer research at the UAE University in Al Ain.
