UAE 39th National Day

The United Arab Emirates is a Federal state that was established on December 2,1971. It consists of seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the founder of the UAE and was elected President on December 2, 1971. He passed away on November 2, 2004. On November 3, 2004, HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan succeeded Sheikh Zayed and became the President of the United Arab Emirates.

Historical Overview

• At the beginning of the 19th century, Britain signed treaties with the local rulers who were under its protection in the Gulf region .
• In 1952, Britain established what had been called as the “Seven Trucial Emirates”
• On December 2, 1971, the union and establishment of the United Arab Emirates were officially announced, while each of the seven emirates kept some sort of autonomy.
• From that time, the union gave a great power to the Emirates. The leadership and citizens worked together to integrate completely into the modern age in all areas & fields. The achievements of the UAE have surpassed those attained by many other countries worldwide.
• The United Arab Emirates annually celebrates the National Day On December 2 . This great occasion emphasizes the great values and prudent vision of the UAE’s leadership. This memorable occasion encourages the UAE nation to stick to the union path that was laid out by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, The founder of UAE

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan was born In 1918. He was chosen to be a ruler of Al Ain in 1946 and ruler of Abu Dhabi on August 6, 1966. In 1968, as soon as Britain announced that it would withdraw from the area, Sheikh Zayed called for a union of the emirates. On December 2, 1971 the union and establishment of the UAE was officially announced. Under his reign, the UAE has made rapid developments and achievements in all areas.

On November2, 2004, the UAE’s first President passed away after a life full of achievements for his country and citizens. Following his father’s path, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has become the President of the UAE.

•Sheikh Khalifa is the eldest son of Sheikh Zayed. He was born in 1948 in the Eastern Region of Abu Dhabi . He received his primary education in Al Ain.
•He became the President of the United Arab Emirates, and the ruler of Abu Dhabi Emirate on the 3rd of November 2004, after his father Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan passed away on the 2nd of November 2004.
• Sheikh Khalifa is known for his punctuality, and commitment to a daily strict work program that is distributed among many official functions H.H is involved with, and meetings with citizens. Sheikh Khalifa is also known for being a good listener who is characterized by humility when dealing with others, the thing that earned him the love and respect of UAE citizens. In addition to that, sheikh Khalifa is mild- mannered, a good reader of history, and a lover of poetry and literature. Sheikh Khalifa has several hobbies such as fishing and falconry.
