The New Islamic Year 1432 A.H

The Islamic New Year is the day that marks the beginning of a new Islamic calendar year. The first day of the year is observed on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar. It is a lunar calendar consisting of 12 lunar months in a year of 354 or 355 days.

It is used to date events in many Muslim countries, and used by Muslims everywhere to determine the proper day on which to celebrate Islamic holy days and festivals. The first year was the year during which the emigration of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, known as the Hijra, occurred. The year AD 2010 corresponds to the Islamic Year 1431 AH.

The Hijra is the emigration of the prophet Muhammad and his Muslim followers from his birthplace (Mecca) to the city of Madinah (both in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) in AD 622.

This journey was undertaken as a first step to the foundation of the first Muslim city-state, a turning point in Islamic and world history as the Muslims were able to organize and establish the first real Muslim "community," with social, political, and economic independence.
