IT Education Project

H.H.Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum IT Education Project (ITEP) was initiated in the year 2000 by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum as part of his inspirational educational strategy to create the UAE Knowledge Economy. At its initial inception in 2000, ITEP began teaching IT in schools; ITEP now provides courses in

40 high schools in the UAE (20 in Dubai, 20 in Abu Dhabi) and over 13,000 students pass through the programme every year.

Following the success of the schools project, ITEP extended its operations to support the UAE government’s e-overnment initiative by providing IT training programs to government departments.

In addition to its high-school commitments, ITEP now provides IT courses to the following:
  • Dubai Police Department
  • Dubai Islamic College
  • Dubai Police Academy
  • Dubai Immigration.
  • Visually impaired students of Tamkeen.
Vision
Enhancing Education by using IT

International Computer Driving License
International Computer Driving License (ICDL), the internationally recognized computer proficiency standard that is owned by the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) and sponsored by the UNESCO’s Cairo Office (UCO) for Arab states, is gaining increasing acceptance in the Middle East, with several governments adopting and prescribing it to their employees. The ICDL program exists in over 130 countries, and is offered in 32 languages, including Arabic. The programs offered are all based on one standard syllabus and question set. There are more than one million ICDL holders worldwide.

Goal
To provide all the teachers and administrators of the Dubai Education Zone (DEZ) the necessary IT training required for the ICDL certification by June 2006.

Duration & Class Timing
Each batch will go through 60 hours of training spread across 5 weeks. All classes will be conducted 4 days a week. The duration of each class will be three hours.

Training Timeline
The duration of the program is two years. 180 batches will be trained consecutively. The schedule of the program is as follows:

The start and end dates for batches for academic year 2004-2005 are as follows:
  • 5th February – 10th March 2005
  • 12th March – 14 April 2005
  • 16 April – 19 May 2005
  • 21 May – 23 June 2005
The start and end dates for batches for academic year 2005-2006 are as follows:
  • 3rd September – 5th Oct 2005
  • 12th November - 14 December 2005
  • 21st January – 22nd Feb 2006
  • 25th February – 29th March 2006
  • 1st April – 3rd May 2006
  • 6th May – 7th June 2006
  • 2nd September- 4th October 2006
