Arab Thought Foundation
The conference titled ‘Arab and World Media - Getting it Right’ is set to be held in Dubai on the 5th and 6th of December 2005. The organizing committee of the Arab Thought Foundation’s 4th annual conference in collaboration with Dubai Press Club has announced that a range of prominent figures from the political, economic and media fields will participate in the upcoming events.Top journalists and media executives from around the world will join their Arab colleagues at the invitational gathering and delegates will be discussing changes in the Arab world, build relationships, validate assumptions and develop a deeper understanding of the region.
The format will be highly interactive, led by provocative moderators, who will elicit openness and manage debate about complex questions among others, including: • How has media contributed to the creation of political reform in the Arab world? • Is democracy really spreading in the Arab world, or is it politically-motivated propaganda? • Coverage of the Arab world is often reported in ’black and white’ -- what realities lie in between? The spirit of inquiry and open dialogue is at the heart of the mission of the Arab Thought Foundation. With that spirit, this event will convene a collection of global media leaders for a unique opportunity to gain a deepened understanding of the complexity of today’s Arab culture and politics, with a specific focus on the role that emerging media is playing.
The international speakers include: Thomas D. Gardner, President of the International publication of The Reader’s Digest and Senior Vice President at the Association; Geoffrey Cowan, Dean at USC Annenberg School; Antoine de Tarle, Managing Director at Ouest-France; Gordon Robison, Director of the Middle East Media Project at USC Center on Public Diplomacy; John Gage, Chief Researcher and Science Office Director and CTO at Sun Microsystems and others, respectively.
