Middlesex University in Dubai
Middlesex University Dubai is located at the Knowledge Village in Dubai which is a part of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone. Knowledge Village has been set up for diverse entities that create and disseminate knowledge, including academic and training institutions and was launched in October 2003.Knowledge Village (KV) provides an infrastructure and environment for a variety of organisations to meet the needs of the knowledge age.
As a “Leading Learning Hub”, KV has attracted prominent international universities and Middlesex University Dubai is one institution amongst others based there.
KV offers a unique campus ambience with purpose built facilities. The Middlesex University Dubai Campus is a modern building set in landscaped surroundings with the state of the art facilities specially designed for student centred learning.
Facilities include a lecture theatre, seminar rooms, computer laboratories, a library and student focus area. The library is located in a comprehensively equipped Information and Learning Resources Centre where networked terminals provide access to the Internet, web-based learning materials and various packages for teaching and learning.
Students also have access to a comprehensive range of textbooks, learned journals and periodicals, in addition to on-line facilities.
KV also has a food court, bookshop, prayer rooms, sports facilities, gymnasium and a range of commercial outlets. KV has ample parking facilities for students. A rich and varied social programme is provided by KV. The Middlesex Dubai Students Council has already set up several leisure activities in their own focus area. From September 2005, students will have the option of studying for single and joint Honours degrees. In addition to the current programmes students can apply for BA Accounting and Finance. Major and Minor subjects on offer in joint Honours combinations include Accounting, Business Studies, Tourism, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Computing Science. A top up degree in Hospitality Management, aimed at industry professionals, is also available.
Further subjects at Bachelor degree level and Masters degrees are planned in the future. Middlesex University currently recruits more international students than any other UK university; more than 20% of its students are from outside the EU. Middlesex announced in 2003 that, while it would continue to recruit students to its north London campuses, it would also seek significantly to increase the number of students taking Middlesex programmes in their home countries.
