UIM Class One World Powerboat Championship
The U.I.M Class 1 World Powerboat Championship is an exhilarating spectacle bringing together the latest technology, an array of spectacular venues and the best racers in the world who compete for the premiere prize in world powerboat racing. A supremely competitive sport where driver and throttle man are strapped into ‘jet fighter’ canopies to race only inches apart. A technological tour de force where 11 powerboats, 14 metres in length, weighing five tons, and powered by twin 850hp Lamborghini engines race at perilous speeds exceeding 160mph in always unpredictable conditions. A powerful and passionate display of excitement, drama, danger and glamour played out in front of average crowds of 250,000 spectators at nine venues in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. All combining to create the ultimate world that is ‘Class1’. The U.I.M. Class 1 World Powerboat Championship is without question the premiere series in the annual global calendar of sporting events that leaves all others in its wake.Class 1 has come a long way technologically since first being recognised by the U.I.M. in 1964. Shortly after its advent, Americans Jim Wynne, Dick Bertram and Don Aronow led the battle for technological supremacy, with Daytona, Mercruiser, and AeroMarine power plants reigning supreme.
