2006 Hotel stats
Total number of guests in all hotel establishments was 6.44 million, an increase of 5% over 2005. Of the total, 5.47million (85%) stayed in hotels and 0.97million (15%) in hotel apartments.Total number of guest nights spent by guests in hotel establishment was 17.6 million (an increase of 8% over 2005). Hotels registered 14 million guest nights (an increase of 5% over 2005) and hotel apartments posted 3.5 million guest nights (an increase of 22% over 2005).
The highest number of guests was recorded during the month of August, followed by December, March, November and February while in 2005, the highest number of guests was recorded in December followed by September, November, August and March.
Non-UAE nationals constituted 95% of total hotel establishment guests (94% in 2005) and 96% of total hotel establishment guest nights as in previous year.
European guests constituted 32% of total hotel establishment guests as in previous year. Arabs comprised 30% (34% in 2005); Asians 22% (21% in 2005); Africans (excluding Arabs) 6% (5% in 2005); Americas 7% (6% in 2005); and Australasia & the Pacific 3% (2% of total guests in 2005).
European constituted 37% of total hotel establishment guest nights (38% in 2005). Arabs comprised 30% (297% in 2005); Asians 22% (20% in 2005); Africans (excluding Arabs) 6% as in previous year; Americas 7% (5% in 2005); and Australasia & the Pacific 3% (2% of total guest nights in 2005).
Number of hotel establishment guests from each region with DTCM representative offices showed positive growth except Germany, Saudi Arabia & South Africa while in 2005, each region showed positive Hotel room occupancy registered a slight decrease of 3% from 84.6% in 2005 to 82.0% in 2006. Hotel bed occupancy rate decreased from 81.5% in 2005 to 77.3% in 2006. Hotel apartment flat percentage occupancy registered a slight increase of 0.2% from 80.3% in 2005 to 80.4% in 2006.
Total revenues of hotel establishments amounted to Dhs. 10.8Billion, with hotels contributing 89% and hotel apartments 11%. Revenues generated by hotels reached Dhs. 9.7 billion (an increase of 22% over 2005) while hotel apartment revenues amounted to Dhs. 1.1 billion (an increase of 28% over 2005).
Hotel room revenues registered an increase of 34% from Dhs 4.5Billion in 2005 to Dhs. 6Billion in 2006 and other revenues in 2006 generated Dhs 3.6Billion (an increase of 7% over 2005) while flat revenues registered an increase of 28% from Dhs 0.8Million in 2005 to Dhs. 1Billion in 2006 and other revenues contributed Dhs 0.9Million (an increase of 19% over 2005) Total number of operating hotels in Dubai in 2006 was 302, an increase of 4% from 290 in 2005. The number of hotel rooms available increased by 8% to reach 30,850 from 28,610 in 2005 and number of hotel beds available increased by 7% from 47,001 in 2005 to 50,099 in 2006.
Total hotel rooms in 5-star in 2006 was 11,806, an increase of 9% over 2005 from 10,827; 4-star was 5,990, an increase of 10% over 2005, and 3-star hotels was 4,224, an increase of 2% over 2005.
Number of hotel apartments totaled 111, an increase of 11% from 100 in 2005. Deluxe apartments totaled to 19, an increase of 19% over 2005 and standard apartments reached to 76, an increase of 25% over 2005.
Length of stay of guests in all hotel establishments averaged 2.73 days, an increase of 3% from 2.65 days over 2005. Hotel guests stayed an average of 2.56 days (2.53 days in 2005) while hotel apartment guests stayed around 3.69 days (3.38 days in 2005)
