Dubai International Award
Dubai International award was established in 1995 by a decree from Vice-President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Award aims at encouraging, recognizing and enhancing awareness of outstanding and sustainable achievements in improving the quality of life in urban and rural settlements.The Award is open to all organizations and individuals from Governments, Local Authorities, international Non-Governmental and Community-Based oganizations, the Private Sector and other representatives of Civil Society.
Each one of the 12 winners would receive a monetary prize of US$30,000 in addition to a certificate and a trophy depicting the award logo, the Barjeel (Wind Tower). Also, a maximum of two representatives of each winning initiatives are invited by Dubai Municipality to attend the award ceremony in Dubai. Dubai Municipality plans to launch an international media campaign covering the entire globe to promote the submission for the sixth Cycle of the Dubai International Award for Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment (DIABP) for the year 2006.
This was announced by Qassim Sultan, Director-General of Dubai Municipality and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of DIABP.
“The Dubai International Award is growing in scope as we witness an ever increasing number of submissions during every cycle. This campaign will ensure that the award attracts quality entries that reflect existing initiatives and projects from all corners of the world that have helped improve the living conditions of people in their respective communities,” Mr. Sultan added stating that the award attracted more than 2,500 submissions from over 140 countries in its five cycles since 1995.
