THE FOUNDATIONS FOR GROWTHBetween 1972 and 2000, the General Postal Authority increased its number of letter deposit boxes from 52 to 973 and opened a further 43 postal offices. The total number of private post boxes available also grew, from 8,223 to 186,120.

Emirates Post, a partner of Global Village 2005, has opened two postal outlets at the DSF Global Village to offer the full range of postal services and discounted rates on parcels, as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of Dubai Shopping Festival.
The two post offices, located near Gate No. 1 and Gate No. 4, are offering a special deal exclusively for Global Village visitors under a new promotion "Pick up and Delivery." Shoppers can send parcels directly to their relatives and friends, with a discount of 15 per cent on international parcels and upto 50 per cent on local deliveries on the same day. The service will be available for an extended period until March 31, 2005.
The two post offices will be open from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight daily. These outlets will continue to offer the discounted rates even after the country-wide parcel promotion ends at the post offices.
