Foresight
Foresight is a Dubai-based organisation helping to accelerate a cure for blindness caused by hereditary eye disease which affect millions of people worldwide, particularly Retinitis Pigmentosa. In partnership with Tamkeen, they also aim to improve the lives of people with visual impairment in the community and raise awareness of the difficulties they face in their everyday lives.Leading bodies from the international research effort have advised that the group can really make a difference through gathering information and setting up initiatives here in the U.A.E. The group is doing this in consultation and with the backing of the leading local ophthalmologists, Emirates Medical Association, Retina International and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. Through the funding of projects, lobbying of health ministries and coordination with initiatives such as Dubai Bio Tech City, there is a possibility of making great leaps towards finding a cure, in Dubai.
Foresight also aim to set up a support group for people with RP in the U.A.E. of all nationalities.
Education is also high on the agenda to raise awareness of the difficulties faced by people with visual impairment and the positive steps they can take to live a full life.
Foresight raises funds through donations, sponsorship and creative and original events. Foresight was set up by Katy Newitt who is severely visually impaired from the effects of RP.
