Berlin-Dubai Cultural Festival starts in Dubai
The Goethe-Institut German Language Center Dubai, liasion office of the Goethe-Institut Gulf-Region, presented an exciting cultural weekend, which shows the rich diversity and uniqueness of the urban cultural developments in the city of Berlin.Due to its young and energetic urban cultural scene, Berlin and Dubai have a lot in common, which will be emphasised by this event. The Berlin-Dubai Cultural Festival shows the vivid and vibrant face of one of the most exciting capitals in Europe, which besides its historical and cultural heritage also embraces the latest trends in fashion, design and music. The event takes place in cooperation with the German National Tourist Office, Volkswagen Middle East, JamJar Gallery and Le Meridien Mina Seyahi.
The event was opened last night with the movie "Let it Rock" on the Berlin artists scene, which made the German capital one of the hippest and most international city in Europe. The movie gives in a humurous way answers to the question how artists live in a surrounding in which they are commercially abused by clever marketing managers in order to promote a certain image. The movie followed by a discussion on the topic whether culture and commerce can work together and how artists are challenged to prevail within the limits of commercialising and avant-garde-underground.
On Saturday, 30th October, the festival will continue with the literature readings of the German authors and journalists Jasna Zajcek and Norman Ohler on living in the multi-cultural metropolis Berlin and their experiences with the Arabic region. After this, a discussion on the challenges and fascinations of multicultural metropolises will follow.
