Dubai International Holy Quran Award
Fifteen years passed, and Dubai still illuminates the hearts of the world and sends the light of the Quran into the hearts of the people of the earth in the month of light and forgiveness where tongues reading, memorizing and reciting the glorious Book of Allah in reverence and consideration.Fifteen years have passed and the Dubai International Holy Quran Award illuminates platforms flock to it by the memorizers of the Holy book of Allah from all parts of the world. This Award illuminates the hearts and ears of the world with the revelations of Allah in the month of Ramadan each year. But even extended to the days of the whole year through diversified events and activities of faith. They are bright years of achievement. An achievement that aims to improve the general standard of Quranic performance i.e. its memorization, recitation and Tajweed, and contributes to highlight the Islamic face of the country and emphasize the Islamic values and their vital role in life.
According to the supreme decision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai International Holy Quran Award was established in 1997, 1418 H. It was started with two branches: "The International Holy Quran Contest" and "The Islamic Personality of the Year". Then seven more branches have been created namely: Lectures Program, Local Contest, Inmates Memorization of the Quran Program, UAE National Memorizer Program, Most Beautiful Recitation Contest, Serving Quran Sciences Program, and Qiraat recitation Program.
Objectives of the Award - To ascend the general standard of the Quranic performance through memorization, recitation and acting according to its instructions.
- Highlighting the Islamic aspect of the UAE.
- Promoting Islamic values and their importance in life.
- Honoring personalities or institutions that have provided outstanding services to Islam and Muslims.
- Printing and publishing Quran sciences books.
The Award grants the winners financial prizes and appreciation certificates. Also all participants are given financial rewards and appreciation certificates as well.
Air tickets and lodging expenses are offered by the Award to all contestants, Islamic personality, judges and invitees.
1) The International Holy Quran Contest Memorizers of the Holy Book of Allah, who filled the world’s ears with the revelations of Allah came from all over the world and achieved a goal of the Award, which is upgrading the general standard of Quranic performance; i.e. memorization, recitation and Tajweed.. Winners registered their names in the records of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award.
The number of contestants participating in each year reaches more than 80 contestants, who all are subject to the initial test upon arrival to ensure their competence and eligibility to participate in the honor of this Award.
This Contest takes place every year in Ramadan; all Arabic and Islamic countries are invited to participate in it by one contestant who is officially nominated by either his respective country or by an approved Islamic center.
The contestant should not be more than 21 years old and should have memorized the Holy Quran. He should be conversant with the rules of recitation (Tajweed), delegated by an official body and had not participated in the same contest before.
Every year the number of participants reaches more than 80 contestants. All of them are tested when arriving, and those who have not passed the test should leave back home.
The Award accepts the recitation narrated by: Hafs, Warsh, Qaloon and Al Duori. But most of them are Hafs and Warsh.
A closing Ceremony every year is held on 20th of Ramadan attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum or any person deputed by him. The first three positions are honored as follows: the first will be granted AED 250,000, the second AED 200,000 and the third AED 150,000. All other contestants are granted rewards the maximum of which is AED 65,000 and the minimum is AED 20,000.
The activities of the contest are transmitted live via satellite and land channels and published in local and international newspapers.
The recitations of contestants are evaluated by an international judging committee consists of five judges in addition to a stand-by Judge. Each contestant has to answer five questions related to the Quran in full prepared by the technical committee of the Award according to international criteria.
