Dubai International named Air Cargo Hub of the Year
The importance of Dubai International as vital regional and global cargo hub was again recognised at the annual Supply Chain and Transport Awards (SCATA) where it was named Air Cargo Hub of the Year. Dubai International won the same award last year."It is a great honour to again be recognised by our peers as a key player in the regional and global cargo industry. The SCATA awards, organised by magazine publisher ITP Business, identifies excellence within the Middle East’s logistics industry with 16 categories covering the logistics, sea freight and air cargo sectors. Nominations are invited online and are assessed by a prestigious panel of experts, selected from within the Middle East logistics industry.
Dubai International is the fourth biggest airport in the world in terms of cargo traffic. In March the airport handled 186,417 tonnes of cargo compared to 185,921 tonnes in March 2011, up 0.3 per cent. Cargo volumes during the first quarter rose slightly with freight volumes reaching 517,440 tonnes, an increase of 1.1 per cent compared to 512,057 tonnes during the corresponding period in 2011.
