British Schools In The UAE Outperform UK Counterparts
GEMS students from British Curriculum schools in the UAE have outperformed their counterparts in England in the IGCSE/GCSE and A-Level Examinations for 2012 by up to 20 percentage points.IGCSE/GCSE examinations
GCSE/IGCSE students at GEMS British curriculum schools in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have achieved results that are 20 percentage points higher than the average student in England, according to this year’s analysis of the GCSE/IGCSE examinations.
Early reports out of England today have also indicated that the number of students failing the GCSE English exams has increased this year. However, GEMS students in Dubai and Abu Dhabi continue to do better than their peers in England and are showing an increase in the number of students passing the GCSE English examinations.
A-Level examinations
In the A-Level examinations, 56 per cent of GEMS students in Dubai and Abu Dhabi received an A* to B which is 3 per cent higher than students in England. 98 per cent of students that wrote the A- Level examinations from across the GEMS network of schools in the UAE passed the examination with an A*-E grade.
With UK reports stating that for the first time in 20 years, A –Level top marks were at 26.6 per cent, which is down by at least 0.4 per cent from previous years, 28.7 per cent of Jumeirah College students obtained A*- A. This is about 2 per cent more than the A* - A marks received in the UK.
International Baccalaureate
GEMS schools also continue to perform above the international averages in the International Baccalaureate for both average scores per student and the percentages of students passing the
IB Diploma. The pass rate for GEMS schools is 9 per cent higher than the international pass rate.
At Dubai American Academy the average score per student in IB for 2012 is 7 points higher than international average points scored.
