European Tour Lauds Government Backing for DP World Tour Championship

As the curtain comes down on The Race to Dubai with the staging of the 2013 DP World Tour Championship, the organisers and promoters from The European Tour have been quick to praise the role played by the Government of Dubai is staging the US$8 million tournament.

Staged under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, the DP World Tour Championship will be staged on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates from Thursday to Sunday (14-17 November).

It is the final event in a season-long campaign that will have seen the players compete in 46 tournaments in 25 destinations.

This week, the 46th and final event has seen the best players on The Race to Dubai descend on the city to once again place Dubai in the world sporting spotlight as stars such as Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald do battle for US$8 million in prize money plus a share of The Race to Dubai Bonus Pool of US$3.75 million.

Staging the 2013 DP World Tour Championship has been a year-long affair with team-work between The European Tour, title sponsor DP World, Jumeirah Golf Estates, event co-sponsors and the Dubai Government being the key to its success.

“There is no doubt the teamwork we enjoy with our colleagues within governmental bodies has played a vital role in the success of the DP World Tour Championship over the past four years of the tournament,” said European Tour International Director, Dubai Office Nick Tarratt.
“Dubai is a city where everyone comes together to make such events a success and we would not be able to put on a show worthy of the occasion without the assistance of the Dubai Police and Emergency Services, Dubai Civil Defence, the Dubai Sports Council, the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, Trakhees, the RTA, Dubai Calendar, Dubai Immigration, Dubai Civil Aviation, Dubai Airports, Dubai Health Authority and the Emirates Golf Federation.

“We started planning for the 2013 tournament the day after Rory McIlroy won both the 2012 DP Tour World Championship and The Race to Dubai almost twelve months ago. Since then have been helped every step of the way and we thank HH Sheikh Hamdan for his ongoing support.”

During a visit to Jumeirah Golf Estates, 1st Warrant Office Moosa Alhalyan of Dubai Police - who along with Captain Essa Hamza is responsible for the co-ordination of Dubai Government Services for the DP World Tour Championship - joined Tarratt for a final site inspection before the tournament gets underway.

“Nothing is left to chance in ensuring the DP World Tour Championship is not only a successful event for the players but also a safe and secure environment for the tens of thousands of spectators who will visit Jumeirah Gofl Estates,” added Tarratt.

Government support ranges from efficient policing and attentive medical staff to Group Entry Visas assistance and the road management of the Road and Traffic Authority and Dubai Traffic Police.

“It is important the tournament has a strong Dubai flavour,“ said Tarratt. “With the support from Dubai-based contractors and suppliers as well as the Government of Dubai, we are again able to stage yet another fitting finale to The Race to Dubai.“
