The Four Contenders for EXPO 2020

Dubai, United Arab Emirates Bid for 2020
Seemingly, the best funded of the five bids for 2020, Dubai has amibtious plans to tranform a completely vacant desert area until an oasis. It has spent a great deal of money corralling talent from around the world planning for its bid. Sources seem to indicate that Dubai has one of the best chances of the four bids.
Ekaterinburg Bid for 2020
Russia would host it’s first world’s fair in the city of Yekaterinburg, the fourth largest city in Russia. The proposed theme is "the Global Mind."
Izmir, Turkey Bid for 2020
Izmir, Turkey previously bid to host Expo 2015 and narrowly lost to Milan. A Turkish bid would seem to be a strong contender for 2020. Izmir was selected over Ankara by Turkey’s federal government. The proposed theme is "New Routes to a Better World: Health for All."
Sao Paulo, Brazil Bid for 2020
Brazil would host it’s first BIE-sanctioned world’s fair in the city of Sao Paulo, four years after Rio de Janiero’s 2016 Summer Olympics and six years after Brazil’s 2014 World Cup. The proposed theme is "the Power of Diversity, Harmony for Growth."
Today, the various delegates of the BIE (one per member nation) will vote for their preferred bids. If no city garners 50% of the vote, the lowest scoring city is removed from the ballot and the process is repeated until a city receives 50% of the vote.
