Dubai foreign trade of readymade cloths, footwear, perfumes, cosmetics hit AED 28b
Dubai’s foreign trade in products that are widely in demand during Eid festivities, such as readymade clothes, shoes, perfumes and cosmetics, mounted up to around AED 28.2 billion in the first half of 2014, a 12% increase compared to the same period in 2013. Imports accounted for AED 20.6 billion, exports AED 1.1 billion and re-exports for AED 6.4 billion, according to Dubai Customs (DC).
Dubai Customs, in a press release, says the demand for Eid-related products during holidays is being driven by the flourishing tourism season in Dubai which is expecting more tourists during Eid al-Adha holiday as the emirate’s tourist attractions and luxury malls offer a memorable shopping experience.
As many as 600,000 tourists visited Dubai during this year's Eid al-Fitr, according to Dubai Customs.
Ahmed Abdul Salam Kazim, Director of Strategy and Corporate Excellence, said that supporting the Dubai economy is DC's top priority. Dubai Customs is also keen on enhancing the role of the shopping and tourism sector, in addition to engaging continuous coordination with all commercial groups steered by the DC’s Advisory Board, seeking to boost cooperation with traders and investors."
