Do’s and Don’ts in Dubai

Published on the DTCM website www. definitelydubai.com the brochure, Dubai –know before you go – informs tourist that don’ts include: dancing on the street ; drinking alcohol or being drunk in public; swearing; public display of affection, such as kissing or holding hands and aggressive of offensive behavior such as spitting.



Visitors and residents are advised to adopt a modest dress code at public places such as streets, shopping malls and restaurants. Shorts, miniskirts and mini dresses should be avoided. It is also recommended to refrain from wearing clothing. That displays obscene or offensive pictures and slogans. Both men and women must wear conservative swimwear at beaches.  Swimwear is not permitted to be worn outside the beach dress code apply in the rest of the city. Indecent acts in public are strictly forbidden in Dubai. Violation of this rules can lead to legal action.



Public displays of Affection such as kissing and fondling or patting are not appropriate. This form of greeting and intimate behavior in public places is deemed disrespectful and may lead to legal action. To Arab men greet their counterparts by a cordial handshake. However,  for a man to shake the hand of a woman (and vice versa),  in most circumstances, is not recommended. If a woman offers a handshake first to extend the same courtesy.



Care and sensitivity is recommended when taking photographs in public areas. Permission from the relevant authorities.
