Quote by MD and CEO of DEWA on Earth Day 2017

“Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is celebrating Earth Day 2017, organised by Earth Day Network, to promote awareness of the importance of leading a lifestyle that preserves our planet and protects the environment from direct or indirect damage caused by human activities,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“DEWA is committed to achieve the sustainable growth in Dubai, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who laid the foundations for building a sustainable future for generations to come. Dubai has become a model for clean and renewable energy, sustainability and green economy. It reduced carbon emissions and introduced sustainable solutions to address climate change and global warming, as outlined in the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to provide 7% of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy by 2020, 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050.

DEWA adopts a strategy to reduce energy demand by 30% by 2030, and reduce carbon emissions by 16% by 2021. It has launched major smart initiatives and projects, most importantly Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, Shams Dubai, as well as smart grids and metres and the Green Charger. These efforts support UAE Vision 2021 to achieve a sustainable environment in terms of air quality, conservation of water, increased reliance on clean energy, green development, Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai a smart, integrated, connected and sustainable city with clean, healthy and sustainable environment, and DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility.

Millions people from more than 180 countries around the world celebrate Earth Day every year, to renew their commitment towards preserving the planet and environment. On this occasion, we allocated distinguished environmental activities to raise awareness on the environmental issues and the right way to resolve and avoid it in the future.”
