Cosmetic Surgery Trends around the World
The Cosmetic Surgery industry is an industry with an undeniable popularity in today’s society. From lip filling, to breast enhancement, there’s no shortage of procedures available to those willing to pay the price to have the work done. But what are the most popular cosmetic surgery trends right now? Some are more surprising than others, and we’ve brought together some of the most notable trends from around the globe.
Dubai
Essentially the Beverly Hills of the Middle East, Dubai is easily following in its footsteps when it comes to cosmetic surgery. With the industry booming, around 103 of the 150 The Emirates Plastic Surgery Society practice in Dubai and it’s no wonder. With an increasing medical tourism trade pulling in people from all over the world, there are various trends that are starting to pick up among the 12% of medical tourists, and the Dubai citizens who are wanting to go under the knife.
The ‘Mommy Makeover’ is one of the growing trends, which essentially boils down to mothers opting for plastic surgery such as liposuction and tummy tucks to speed up the process of losing excess fat and make it easier to one their bodies up again. Lipo Structuring is another growing procedure – the act of using liposuction to remove fat from parts of your face to bring back a younger-looking structure.
South Korea: Facial Surgery
South Korea, home to flawless idols, male and female alike. With perfectly-formed celebrities, is it any wonder that radical facial surgery is growing in popularity? South Korea has the highest rate per capita of plastic surgery in the whole world, and has quickly become known as the global capital for plastic surgery.
Whether it’s creating a more v-shaped chin, a smaller nose or altering eye shape, South Korea is certainly building up a profitable business for themselves. After all, it’s not just the Korean residents that go there for surgery. Medical Tourism is growing in popularity there too, and the surgeons are only happy to oblige.
India: Limb Lengthening
This painful, lengthy process is one that is developing in popularity in India, but is highly dangerous. A Llizarov frame is fixed to a section of bone in the desired limb, and the bone covered by the frame is then surgically broken. What follows is weeks of painful regrowth of bone and slow, painful adjustments of the frame to lengthen the gap. While the surgery can increase your height and, in India, is said to improve your career and marriage prospects, the dangers and risks are not worth it.
Bone’s that don’t fuse because of infection or simply poor healing are often then amputated due to the damage done. This procedure can be used for medical reasons, or for salvaging limbs after accidents, but the true question is whether or not this should be allowed for beauty purposes. But with an unregulated industry in India, the public are entirely open to persuasion.
Worldwide: Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty is a surgery related to the vagina, in which the size or shape of the labia is changed. One of the fastest growing surgeries across the entirety of the globe, the year-to-year growth in popularity has reached as much as 45%. But why is it growing popularity so rapidly? While it’s not fully understood, fingers have been pointed towards the porn industry and the never-ending pressure on girls to look a certain way.
With just over 5% of procedures being done on girls under the age of 16, the suggestion that a large amount of young girls are being made to feel bad about a private part of themselves is shocking. But ultimately, the social pressure could very well be the reason for the rise in popularity of this particular cosmetic surgery form.
