Dubai International Academic City To Host Sports Festival To Celebrate Fitness And Healthy Living Amongst Youth
(4 October 2017)

Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) will host the 2017 DIAC Sports Festival from 6 October to 25 November as part of its efforts to foster a greater sense of community within its vibrant ecosystem of over 25,000 students while promoting the adoption of a healthy lifestyle amongst youth.

Supported by Dubai Holding and Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), the DIAC Sports Festival is an extension of the DIAC Sports Cup that has been conducted over the past few years by DIAC's Student Hub team, a dedicated student centric team appointed by DIAC to manage student engagement and build a thriving student community in Dubai.

Speaking on the importance of celebrating fitness and community spirit, Mohammad Abdullah, Managing Director of Dubai International Academic City, said: "In addition to fostering academic excellence at DIAC, we also believe in ensuring extra-curricular growth. Sport has always been viewed as a way to stay healthy and in shape, but its importance goes much further than that. Participating in sports teaches life lessons like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, accountability, and teamwork."

Taking place at Aktiv Nation's indoor sports facility, the DIAC Sports Festival will consist of six separate sporting events, catering to various age segments ranging from high school to university students. The six events include the DIAC Futsal Cup, DIAC Indoor Cricket Cup, DIAC Freestyle Beach Volleyball Cup, DIAC Youth Cup, DIAC Athletics Cup and the DIAC Sports Cup. The annual flagship event is drawing the participation of over 2,000 student athletes from over 22 universities, independent student teams and 3,000 spectators.

"At Aktiv Nation we believe in the power and philosophy of sport that effects positive change by uniting people while exemplifying discipline, respect, responsibility, and fairness. We are excited to be powering the DIAC Sports Festival for the second year running – expanding from one event, to six separate events. This expansion is part of our commitment in collaboration with DIAC to bring sports and its benefits to as many students as possible," said Osama Siddiqui, Founder & CEO of Aktiv Nation.

"Events such as the DIAC Sports Festival are vital in fostering a sense of inclusion and integration within our diverse community of students. We hope events such as these will not only create lasting memories but also build a strong community spirit through friendship and camaraderie," added Mohammad Abdullah.
