Suqia Board Reviews Achievements In Year Of Giving 2017 And Preparations For Year Of Zayed 2018

The Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia), under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), has held its 4th meeting for this year, chaired by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia. The meeting was attended by HE Humaid Al Shamsi, International Aid Adviser to the Emirates Red Crescent and Vice Chairman of the Board;  HE Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al Baili, Provost of United Arab Emirates University;  HE Dr. Arif Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President of Khalifa University;  HE Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Under-Secretary of the Ministry for International Cooperation and Development; Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development & Excellence at DEWA; Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation at DEWA;  Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia, and Fahad bin Afira Al Falasi, Secretary of the Board of Trustees of Suqia.

The meeting discussed Suqia’s achievements and projects, during Q4 of the Year of Giving, and its preparations for the Year of Zayed. The meeting also discussed the second Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Water Award, which was launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Suqia oversees the award, which is worth USD 1 million, and encourages research institutions, individuals and innovators all over the world to find sustainable and innovative solutions to address the problem of clean water, by using solar power.

“Suqia will continue its developmental initiatives and projects during the year of Zayed to support the UAE’s efforts in commemorating the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and continue his journey in doing good and lending a helping hand to the needy all over the world. Suqia will continue its initiatives and sustainable development projects inside and outside the UAE, to provide potable water to the needy, the disadvantaged, and those who are in distress around the world. Suqia contributes to developing innovative and sustainable solutions to water scarcity around the world. This is done using studies, research, and solar-powered projects to desalinate water,” said Al Tayer.

Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi discussed Suqia’s key projects, in cooperation with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment and the Emirates Red Crescent. Over 8 million people have benefitted from Suqia’s projects so far. The meeting also reviewed the results of the youth volunteer campaign for the implementation of sustainable development and operational projects in Egypt, organised by Suqia, in cooperation with the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and Dubai Press Club. The delegation included 11 volunteers from DEWA, including representatives from DEWA’s Youth Council, and Suqia. The meeting also discussed Suqia’s initiatives to spread awareness among children and the younger generation on water issues and conservation of natural resources. The educational programme is organised by DEWA and Suqia, in collaboration with Surge; a global non-profit organisation.
