UAE Advanced Sciences, Hewlett Packard Enterprise to establish next-generation innovation centre
The UAE Advanced Sciences Office has signed a partnership agreement with Hewlett Packard Enterprise, HPE, which will see the two parties collaborate to set up a next-generation innovation centre in Dubai and explore other opportunities to support research and advanced sciences in the Emirates. According to a press statement, the centre is set to host joint activities that involve UAE Government entities, local companies and start-ups, research partners, incubators, and other stakeholders, along with HPE partners to flag opportunities for innovation, and develop solutions rooted in advanced technologies, such as Blockchain, Internet of Things, IoT, and Smart Cities.
The MoU was signed by Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences, and HPE’s President and CEO Antonio Neri, with the scope going beyond the centre to forming a solid partnership and collaborating on several fronts, such as enhancing research and development into advanced sciences to increase the sector’s contribution to the UAE’s development and economy.
The agreement seeks to expand the scope of the UAE Open Labs Platform, which facilitates the sharing of laboratories and research infrastructure, by providing participating entities with access to HPE’s facilities. The agreement will also enhance efforts to train and empower talented Emirati scientists at facilities in the UAE, as well as through field trips to the USA, to build a skilled national scientific community, the statement added.
"The UAE Government has dedicated tremendous efforts and investments to localise research, build and empower a skilled national scientific community, and transform the UAE into a global centre for producing knowledge and spearheading development," said Al Amiri. "Science is a cornerstone of the UAE’s strategy for the future and authorities have been adamant to empower local scientists and grant them access to advanced facilities so that they can innovate and make breakthroughs that ensure a better future for humankind."
"HPE is committed to bringing together technology, industry and government to power meaningful change", said Antonio Neri. "To spark progress, we need an approach that will translate bold ideas into practical solutions. That is why we are excited to open HPE Digital Life Garage in partnership with the UAE Advanced Sciences Office; to create innovative, production-ready digital solutions with clear benefits to both business and society at large."
As per the terms of the agreement, the UAE Advanced Sciences Office will endorse the HPE-founded Innovation Centre within UAE Government entities, actively encouraging and facilitating visits and engagement in its use cases. The Office will also actively position the centre as the technology host within the entrepreneurship ecosystem, sharing initiatives and plans relevant to the mutual interests of both parties.
Meanwhile, HPE pledges to establish and operate the Innovation Centre, and provide cutting-edge technologies either on the centre’s premises or through connections with other (HPE and non HPE) sites.
