The Palm is built in the shape of a date palm tree and consists of a trunk; a crown with 17 fronds; and a surrounding crescent island - the back of which forms the breakwater. The World, consisting of many islands shaped like countries of our planet is also under construction and situated between the Palm Jumierah and Dubai Creek. Either of the Palm Island developments can be circumnavigated from Dubai Marina in less than four hours which includes a short stop along the way for lunch and a swim. Abras (small wooden boats) serve as taxis for those who want to cross from the Deira side to the Bur Dubai side.
