DUCTAC Is Set To Open Up The Closet Doors Once More As Smash-Hit Play Love, Loss And What I Wore Returns To The Stage
After an acclaimed sell-out run, the smash-hit play Love, Loss, and What I Wore will be returning to DUCTAC’s Kilachand Studio Theatre by popular demand this May. The show, which is written by the late Nora Ephron (writer of When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle) and her sister Delia, captivated audiences and received standing ovations when it premiered at DUCTAC to coincide with International Women’s Day in March. Now, those who missed out the first time round will have the chance to experience this hilarious and poignant show. Like the book, Love, Loss and What I Wore uses clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to tell funny and often emotional stories that all women will be able to relate to. The show, set to take place at DUCTAC’s Kilachand Studio Theatre on 22nd, 24th and 25th May, is a delightful scrapbook of stories about unfortunate prom dresses, the traumatic lighting in fitting rooms, high heels, short skirts and the existential state of having nothing to wear. Accessorizing these tales - which are mostly comic but often sad or sentimental too - are the mothers who disapprove, the men who disappear and the sisters who’ve got your back. The show has been produced on six continents and DUCTAC’s production is directed by DUCTAC’s General Manager Joseph Fowler and Ferne Reynolds - founder of local theatre academy Drama Scene. The show was initially presented in 2008 at Guild Hall in East Hampton, New York, and then as a benefit series at the DR2 Theatre in New York in early 2009. Later the same year, the show was produced Off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre in New York, where it continues to run as the second-longest running show in the theatre’s history. The production and its cast received positive critical attention and won the 2010 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience as well as the 2010 Broadway.com Audience Award for Favourite New Off- Broadway Play. Previous cast members include Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Chenoweth, Tyne Daly, Glenn Close and Rosie O’Donnell. The four fantastic performers who star in the Dubai production are all professional actresses who have chosen to make Dubai their home. The line-up includes Christine Kempell (Educating Rita), who will be reprising her hilarious and heartbreaking performance as the show’s protagonist Gingy.
