Dubai International Communication Committee discusses 2019 strategy

The Dubai International Communication Committee (DICC) today held its first meeting at which it announced its mandate and discussed its broad strategy and operational framework for the upcoming year. The Dubai International Communication Committee (DICC), approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, earlier this month, was initiated by the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) to promote effective and positive engagement with international media to enhance and safeguard Dubai’s image.

Chaired by Director General of GDMO Mona Al Marri, the DICC meeting discussed how its members can work together to fulfil the Committee’s mandate.

"At a time when the global communication environment is changing rapidly and the political and economic landscape is in a state of constant flux, it is vital for Dubai to convey to global audiences an accurate image of its development journey and tell the world the unique stories emerging from its progress. The members of the Dubai International Communication Committee will work together closely to achieve its mandate of protecting and promoting Dubai’s image in line with its leadership’s vision. We are seeking to connect all the dots of Dubai’s aspirations, identity, accomplishments, strategic advantages and value offerings to convey a compelling broader narrative to global audiences," Al Marri said.

The strategic objectives of the Committee include enhancing Dubai’s global reputation and proactively communicating its key messages and accomplishments; building influential relationships and strong networks globally; developing international communication strategies to support Dubai’s vision; and working with the leadership of different Dubai entities to represent the city globally.

Members of the Dubai International Communication Committee include Issam Kazim, Chief Executive Officer of Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing; Fahad Al Gergawi, CEO of Dubai FDI; Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation; Walid Al Awadhi, Chief Operating Officer, Dubai Financial Services Authority; Majed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director, Dubai Media City; Jamal Al Sharif, Chief Officer, Commercial Affairs, Dubai Creative Clusters Authority and Chairman, Dubai Film and TV Commission; Huda Buhumaid, Chief Marketing Officer, Dubai Holding; Aqil Kazim, Chief Commercial Officer, Nakheel; Aisha Miran, Assistant Secretary General, Strategy Management and Governance, The Executive Council of Dubai; Khawla Al Mehairi, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Government Communication, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority; Moza Al Marri, Director, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Roads & Transport Authority; Omran Sharaf, Project Director of Emirates Mars Mission (Hope Probe), Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre; Lamia Khan, Strategic Communications Consultant, UAE Gender Balance Council; Ahmad Al Mazrouie, Head, Media Creativity, General Department of Community Happiness, Dubai Police; Abdulla Al Mansouri, Director of Corporate Support, GDMO; and Hind Al Baker, Director of Strategy and Governance, GDMO.

The Dubai International Communication Committee is tasked with developing strategic action plans to shift negative perceptions and dispel ‘myths’ that stand in the way of an accurate image of Dubai. It will also build a wide network of national and international stakeholders who can support Dubai’s effort to further enhance its reputation.

The Committee will also organise a range of training and learning programmes for Dubai’s communication leaders to enhance their capabilities for engaging with global audiences and responding to diverse communication opportunities and challenges.
