GROUP of FIVE or An Alternate Manifesto
Exhibit “Group of Five” offers concentrated, engaging and kaleidoscopic view on five Latvian artists. The purpose of the expositions is to foster wider reflections on the many expressions of modern art as well as on how todays art speaks to us by changing stereotypical perceptions. ANDRIS EGLITIS Andris Eglītis diversified orderliness of the surrounding objects exemplifies the manliness and stability of human condition. Within the paintings the artists reveals his intelligence and the nuanced drawing from the school of realism. His works are visually powerful with deep conceptual challenges. ROLANDS KRUTOVS The mini-textiles of Rolands Krutovs are a vivid example of the sophistication and elegance characteristic to the Latvian school of tapestry, which contains the best tradition of worlds Gothic and Baroque styles. Transforming these into emotion of philosophical thought and the richness of earthly tones. The artist is not afraid to reveal the fragile, lonesome and oftentimes misunderstood nature of the mans soul, lacking tenderness, the power of Icarus to raise up on his wings and not get trampled over with everyday haste. DAIGA ALISE FREIMANE The paintings of Daiga Alise Freimane remind us of conceptual paradoxes about the illusion of the visible world. That, which we falsely perceive as objective and true reality, is only a tiny part or a narrow aspect of something much more hidden and greater, that reveals the artists–womans’ inner world anxieties, emotions, harmony with color and composition techniques. The artists work directly and acutely speaks to the viewer, encouraging them to stop for a second in that way revealing an additional sense of emotional dimension...Urging us to look for answers in the harmonic silence. ANDRIS VEZIS The fragile, sensual porcelan artwork by Andris Vezis, even more distinctly reveals the individual shades of the participating artists. That is also a sign of good art- diversity, as is the reality in itself. The viewer is guided from various states of emotion, artistic abstraction to esthetic forms, revealing a sense of communal-culture. DAIGA KRUZE In the works of Daiga Kruze the lively and unpredictable impunity of color and form leads to anticipation of finding the hidden code of todays turbulent urbanisation. The maturity of painting episodes, color schemes carries away with its transition from one state of reality into another. It resembles persistant running away, as the human condition of today. The artists work is left up to each viewers interpretation, as the emotional scales create multiplicity of realities.
