Al Bastakiya Art Fair 2010

Now in its fourth year, Al BASTAKIYA ART FAIR (BAF) will take place in the houses of Bastakiya, the historic area of Dubai, 15 - 21 March 2010. BAF 2010 is an independent fringe art fair which focuses international attention on Dubai’s art and cultural agenda and is organized by XVA Gallery. BAF 2010 runs parallel to Art Dubai and in the best tradition of all things fringe, provides a platform for young, innovative and emerging artistic talent. The fair opens up the unique environment of Bastakiya to contemporary art. Involving international, regional and local galleries, artists and curators, the program of events will include a vernissage, daily exhibitions and lectures. EVENTS BAF 2010: PROGRAMME OF EVENTS Monday 15 March 11am : Official Opening & Press Preview of BAF 2010 (Location: Central Plaza, Bastakiya) Midday: Performance by Sadek Rahim (Location: Creek Plaza, Bastakiya) 6-8pm: BAF Opening Reception (Location: Central Plaza, Bastakiya) Wednesday 17 March 6-8pm: Tashkeel Reception and Haiti Fundraiser (Location: House 67, Bastakiya) Thursday 18 March 10.30–11.30am: Brunch talks chaired by Rose Issa with speakers Dr Venetia Porter, Curator at the British Museum and Hans Ulrich Obrist, Director of the Serpentine Gallery, London(Location: XVA Gallery) 7pm: Book Reading by Mohammed Hanid of ‘A case of Mangoes’ and the derived performance ‘The Dictator’s Wife’ by Nimra Bucha (Location: XVA Gallery) Friday 19 March 10.30-11.30am: Brunch talks chaired by Rose Issa with speaker Anna Somers Cocks, Editor in Chief of The Art Newspaper, and Nour Wali, Independent Curator (Location: XVA Gallery) 6pm: Film screening of ‘Our Feelings Took the Pictures: Open Shutters Iraq’, directed by Maysoon Pachachi (Location: XVA Gallery) Saturday 20 March 10.30am – 11.30 am: Brunch talks chaired by Rose Issa with Artists’ Panel Discussion with artists from Iran and the Arab world (Location: XVA Gallery) 7pm: Film screening of ‘Life in the Walled City of Lahore’ by Shireen Pasha (Location: XVA Gallery)
