Jumeira Baccalaureate School (JBS)

The school will be a true international school, locally focused but globally connected. Its uniqueness will come from its mission to teach Arabic as a modern language from Kindergarten to Secondary School. French will also be a core language and cater for all levels from advanced to emergent speakers. The School will create a culture rich environment where bilingualism is a natural outcome of a holistic educational experience. Nursery to KG2 will be driven by the English Early Learning Goals, while the Literacy and Numeracy strategies will shape the school’s approach to the teaching of English and Mathematics. The International Primary Curriculum will promote a thematic and internationally minded framework to organise the teaching of Science, Technology, ICT, Art and the humanities throughout the school. Inquiry, creativity and the educational value of play will be central to the early primary school’s programme. Arabic subjects will be taught by inspired specialists that will lead the way with innovative and creative programmes of study. Arabic will also be enriched and taught through activities such as music, literature, art, dance and drama. The Secondary Section of the school will open in September 2011, offering an enriched MYP Programme that will enable students to opt to undertake IGCSE examinations should they wish to do so; both options will lead to the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme in Grades 11 – 12. Executive Principal: Andy Homden (Currently Head of Dubai British School) Curriculum: International Primary Curriculum (IPC), followed by the International Baccalaureate’s Middle Years Programme (MYP), with optional, elective IGCSEs and subsequently leading to the International Baccalaureate’s Diploma Programme. English will be the main language of instruction throughout the school, with first and second language programmes in both French and Arabic offered to all students.
