Mohammed bin Rashid Center for Government Innovation Hosts Sixth Station of the ’Future Journey’
The Mohammed bin Rashid Center for Government Innovation (MBRCGI) hosted the sixth station of the innovative educational programme, the Future Journey, launched by the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government to develop the skillsets and knowledge of the Dubai Government’s top-level officials.nThe event highlighted innovative ideas that stand to make a difference in government performance by creating innovation-friendly environments that allow for developing and testing new ideas and approaches, and sharing them on local, regional, and international levels.
The programme drew 32 top-level executives from 16 different Dubai Government entities, namely: the Dubai Maritime City Authority, the Dubai Media Authority, the Community Development Authority, the Department of Economic Development in Dubai, the Dubai Government Workshop, the Awqaf & Minors Affairs Foundation, the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Civil Defence, the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA), Dubai Police, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), the Dubai Land Department, and the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).
Huda Al Hashimi: Promoting Innovation Is Essential for Our Work
Huda Al Hashimi, Assistant Director General for strategy and innovation at the UAE Prime Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, stressed that the cooperation between MBRCGI and the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government serves the overall objectives of the centre – specifically those that focus on building an innovative national workforce. H.E. added that empowering local government employees supports the authorities’ attempts to ensure an innovation- and knowledge-based future.
Ali bin Sebaa: Innovation is a Necessity for the Present and Future
Dr Ali bin Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government, said: “A new historical era is drawing closer, driven by cutting-edge technologies, globalisation, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Authorities around the world are racing to utilise these technological advancements to render their operations and services more efficient and to boost revenues.”
“These new developments will not necessarily reflect positively on global development averages,” Dr Al Marri cautioned, “as every period carries a combination of opportunities to be seized and challenges that are difficult to be faced without innovative solutions that optimise the use of the available human and technological capacities. This station of the ‘Future Journey’, therefore, adds another dimension to the previous ones, training participants to forecast future trends all the while thinking creatively to overcome obstacles.”
Government Innovation and Future Forecasting
A team from the MBRCGI presented workshops and seminars about innovation in government, innovation laboratories, and the centre’s role in establishing a culture of innovation and developing special tools for the government of the future. The workshop included a lecture titled “Utilising the Future”, which focused on basic concepts of forecasting future trends and moving forward to exploring different scenarios and crafting strategic plans based on the findings of the two previous stations.
‘Future Journey’: Eleven stations
The “Future Journey” consists of 11 stations: nine of them hosted by nine different government entities, while the remaining two are trips to South Korea and Japan to explore global best practices.
The programme seeks to empower future government leaders, educating them with regards to new government initiatives, which cover such diverse areas as smart cities, open data, innovation, and future strategy, in addition to new trends in institutional excellence, in collaboration with the government institutions sponsoring these initiatives. Participants in the programme will work to bridge the gap between theory and practice, which reflects the core methodology of the MBRSG.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation
