How To Save Money On Your Dubai Honeymoon

Planning your wedding is one of the most exciting times in your life. From choosing the perfect wedding dress, to organizing who’s going to sit at which table, to deciding what band is going to play, it’s a time when you can plan a beautiful event exactly the way you want it. And this beautiful event is one that represents your love with your new life partner, where you can share it with your closest friends and family. Your big day is going to be big, and in large part, it’s because of what awaits you: your honeymoon in Dubai, one of the coolest tourist destinations worldwide.

But recently, you’ve been stressing out a little bit about money. Dubai is glamorous, but that glamor comes at a price, from expensive hotel rooms to pricey nights out. Luckily, here are some great strategies you can use to save money while still enjoying your romantic getaway.

1 Use your credit card

Okay, we aren’t saying that you should swipe the plastic every second of your getaway when a round of cocktails suddenly seems too expensive, or you want to impulsively pay for a spa day you can’t afford. But if you’ve got the right kind of credit card, you can get rewards back to help pay for your honeymoon. You’re already spending a lot on your wedding, from caterers to wedding planner fees, so why not spend that money on a card that pays you back with points for hotels or travel?

According to The Points Guy, an expert on credit cards, you can save a lot by getting cards that give you huge sign-up bonuses. Take, for example, the Chase United MileagePlus Explorer Card. If you spend $2,000 in the first three months of opening an account, you get 40,000 miles! This can go a long way in paying for your plane tickets to Dubai. Considering the expenses of your wedding, you can easily spend that amount in three months. To learn more about the best rewards credit cards of 2018, check out this list.

2 Save on your flight

One of the most expensive aspects of any honeymoon abroad is the flights. After all, if you’re based in the US, domestic flights are already pretty pricey, even from cities like Washington, DC to New York. So once you’re booking flights to other countries and continents, fares go way up. Prices might be so high that you’ve started to second-guess your honeymoon location choice.

But there’s no need to worry. There are lots of great strategies you can use to save money on airfare. For example, there’s the Hopper app. This app, which has a rating of 4.8 in the Apple Store, will track a flight for you so that you can find out when the price has suddenly gone down. Considering that many weddings take an entire year to plan, this will give you plenty of time to get the best savings. Other options include subscribing to flight discount newsletters like TravelZoo and Momondo. And don’t forget about Google Flights!

3 Stay in a budget hotel

Believe it or not, there are budget hotels everywhere--even in fancy cities like Dubai. According to The Culture Trip, “Dubai is renowned for its 7-star hotel and other luxurious resorts. However, there are plenty of simpler and lovely hotels that are great for people on a budget. A cool trick to identify these hotels is to search by neighborhood. Hotels in Downtown Dubai or Dubai Marina are much more likely to be way more expensive than hotels in Al Barsha, where most of the best budget hotels can be found. Although all these areas are only about 15-20 minutes drive from one another, the difference in prices can be shocking.”

Sure, the average daily rate of hotels in Dubai in 2016 was $243.70, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a great price. Another option is using an alternative such as Airbnb, where you can haggle with hosts to get a cheaper price and save on food costs if there’s a kitchen available.

4 Save on tourist attractions

Finally, you’ll want to save on tourist attractions. Dubai is an expensive city, but did you know that mosques are cheap to visit, and the spice souk is free? It’s also smart, according to Nomadic Matt, to use deals you find in Groupon and the local magazine The Entertainer. He explains of the magazine, “You’ll get 2-for-1 specials and discounts on attractions, restaurants, drinks, clubs, them parks, and hotels. You can pick up a copy when you arrive in Dubai at supermarkets and bookstores, or find an online version on their website (the app costs 445 AED or 121 USD). The hard copy costs 495 AED (134 USD) but can quickly pay for itself.”

These are some of the best strategies for saving money your honeymoon in Dubai, which means that when you land you can focus on what counts: having a beautiful, fun time.

Why have you chosen Dubai as your honeymoon destination?
