Dubai Ports announced strategic partner for UN World Data Forum 2018
The Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority, FCSA, has signed an agreement with DP World in Dubai to build a strategic relationship and support the UN World Data Forum 2018. Hosted by the UAE in October 2018, the second edition of the forum will see the participation of more than 1,500 leaders, decision-makers, experts and specialists in the field of data and statistics from around the world.
A Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, was signed by Abdullah Nasser Lootah, FCSA Director-General, Chairman of the Organising Committee of the UN World Data Forum 2018, and Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World. A group of senior officials from both organisations were also in attendance.
"As part of its efforts to build the future, the UAE looks forward to establishing itself as a leading country in the fields of data science and information and communication technology (ICT). This is in accordance with the directives of the country’s wise leadership, which aims to create strong knowledge bases for the process of sustainable development," said Lootah.
"The MoU with DP World underscores the commitment of government and private entities in the UAE to work together to establish the country as a world-leading data resource. It also highlights its dedication to the adoption of innovative ideas and initiatives to achieve the vision of the UAE, and ensure the development and prosperity of its people," he added.
For his part, Bin Sulayem, said, "Our partnership with the UN World Data Forum reflects our support of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. As a major global employer, we know we can play a significant role in improving people’s lives, strengthening communities, and protecting the environment. In following the vision of our country’s leaders, we look forward to supporting the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority in boosting cooperation among global stakeholders on the collection of data and information to enable business to grow and position the UAE as a leader in this field."
Under the terms of the agreement, DP World will handle the provision of all necessary resources and expertise for the success of the forum, which will examine the impact of data and its role in implementing the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.
Both sides will work together to highlight the UAE’s trailblazing success in drawing data for policy development and future plans in all fields, showcasing the country’s achievements in the pursuit of global development goals to a wide audience.
