Allscripts in skid mode as shares plunge, chairman ousted (27 Apr 2012)

It was no ordinary quarterly meeting Thursday for Allscripts. Its chairman Phil Pead was, by many accounts, forced out. Three board members apparently resigned in protest. And this morning, the EHR vendor's shares have plunged almost 43 percent to $9.15.

The company also reported that CFO Bill Davis would be exiting May 18 for another position outside the healthcare sector, leaving analysts downgrading the firm's stock from “buy” to “neutral.”

HHS gives innovation awards to 26 organizations (08 May 2012)

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced Tuesday the first batch of organizations receiving Health Care Innovation awards. A total of $122.6 million will support 26 projects -- many underpinned by health IT, and all aimed at improving care, saving money and improving the healthcare workforce.

Together, the 26 organizations expect to reduce health spending by $254 million over the next three years, HHS noted.
