Experience the life in a desert at Al Ghurair City during Heritage Surprises week. Organsied by Dubai Customs the weeklong activities bring a glimpse of life in the years gone by. Complete with a camel hair tent, barn and water well the Al Raefa Village Activities depicts life in a desert village of Umm Al Quwain.
Another exhibition depicting a village of Umm Al Quwain shows an agricultural area with irrigation channels. This exhibition is called the Fallaj Al Mualla exhibition and also showcases handicrafts and woven items.
Al Yawara Marine Exhibition is a marine heritage exhibition from Al Yawara coastal area in Umm Al Quwain. It shows life in coastal areas.
Al Dour heritage exhibition showcases the antiquities of Al Dour area, which is part of Umm Al Quwain, in cooperation with the National Museum of Umm Al Quwain.
Al Saif Heritage Workshop event has workshops for kids to learn traditional handicrafts such as basket making from palm tree fronds, etc.
The Heritage show exhibits traditional handicrafts. Besides children’s games of olden times are also being hosted to give modern day kids a glimpse into the past. Several Heirtage activities are also being held at other shopping malls throughout the week. These include Deira City Centre, Ibn Battuta Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Mercato, BurJuman and Hamarain Centre from 5pm to 10pm daily until August 23.
The 10-week long DSS, which opened with Ice Surprises week on June 21, celebrated the Arts Surprises Week, Food Surprises, Adventure Surprises, Cartoon Surprises and Nature Surprises, Knowledge Surprises, Flower Surprises, and continues with the weekly themes of Heritage Surprises and concludes with the Back-2-School Surprises on September 1.
