The Community Development Authority (CDA) and Damas’ Damas & Society Department have launched a volunteer initiative to unify private sector and government efforts to provide essential community services and increase the rate of volunteer work in Dubai.
In its first phase, the initiative will encourage young UAE Nationals to participate in volunteer activities which will benefit specific sectors of society. The second phase will include Non-Emirati youth in the program.
“This initiative is a direct implementation of the CDA’s vision to increase participation from all sectors of society and to build world class social and community services,” said Dr Mariam Matar, Director General of the CDA.
“This is the first time a private company has joined hands with a governmental organization on this kind of program. It will have wide-reaching benefits both for the volunteers and the non-government organizations which will benefit from the boost in human resources which this initiative will offer.”
Damas, an international integrated jewellery and watch retailer with operations in 18 countries, recently established the Damas and Society Department - an arm of the company responsible for identifying causes and charities which Damas may support in the Middle East. Damas Cares recently donated a bus to the Emirates Thalassemia Association and sponsored a video clip for nasheed singer Ahmed Bukhatir in an effort to preserve and promote Emirati and Islamic culture.
“We applaud what Damas is doing for society. The idea of corporate social responsibility is still relatively new in Dubai and the CDA would like to work in tandem with the private sector to increase the involvement of companies in providing community services for all residents of Dubai,” said Dr. Mariam Matar,
“The CDA is hoping to implement a strategic plan to develop Dubai’s social framework and to involve all elements of society in this. For this reason we are developing strategic relationships with various organizations which have shown the capacity and the commitment to providing a basic social safety net for the community.” |
