Dubai Ladies Club, a member of Dubai Women Establishment, in collaboration with Department of Health & Medical Services and Emirates Medical Association, successfully organized its second annual ‘Think Pink’ fundraising event on Thursday 22 October, aimed at raising vital funds for breast cancer patients and cancer research programs within the UAE. The event was supervised by representatives from Dubai Hospital – Dr. Shahina Dawood, Dr. Sameera and Dr. Rofaida – who educated the audience on the disease’s risks, how to prevent it and the advantages of early diagnosis, along with breast cancer patients who bravely shared their story and experiences.
The event also consisted of other activities such as: a two-day Pink Bazaar where guests were able to purchase unique handmade jewellery, home decorative items, clothing, breast cancer pink ribbon items and gifts of hope, love, and friendship, along with a cookery demonstration by Sharp where chefs and nutritionists demonstrated the healthy way to cook. The vening also included a refreshing yoga class on the beach and finally concluded with a tea party on the beach offering a complimentary buffet including a delicious pink dessert bar, pink appetizers and beverages. This event was sponsored by Sharp, as Gold Sponsors, Caterya, L’Occitane, Ghraoui Chocolates, National Paints and Tamani Hotel.
Latest governments statistics show, Breast Cancer is the most common cancers in the U.A.E. for national and non-national women and the second cause of death accounting for 28 percent of all female deaths in the UAE. With a mortality rate of 44 percent, due to late diagnosis, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the UAE and the leading cause of deaths amongst female malignant diseases.
In an effort to counter this notable high incidence, money raised from donations and from leasing bazaar booths will be donated through Emirates Medical Association, towards local breast cancer programs and services, research, advocacy, and promotion of early detection and prevention of breast cancer.
Since its inception in 2003, Dubai Ladies Club has consistently worked towards improving the quality of life of Emirati and expatriate women living in the UAE through in-house events, facilities and pilot projects. The events span the fields of art, culture, fitness and educational seminars.
