Laura Davies Hopes For A Strong Finish In Omega Dubai Ladies Masters (3 November 2009)

Laura Davies hopes to cap a year of "ups and down" with a long-awaited victory when English veteran competes in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters at the Emirates Golf Club from December 7 to 12.

"I love Dubai. I love the tournament - it’s one of my favourites and I am looking forward to it," said Davies ahead of the euro 500,00 tournament, promoted and organized by golf in DUBAi.

The four-time major winner kicked off the season in style by winning the Women’s Australian Open - her 52nd career international victory - in February, but it has been a roller coaster ride for her since then. She endured a somewhat punishing spell on the LPGA where she featured in 15 tournaments, making the cut in nine with her best finish being a tied 17th.

On the Ladies European Tour, it’s been a different story. She raked in five top-10 finishes, including two runner-up places, in 11 starts - a fairly good record. But Davies, who has this insatiable appetite for action, is far from being satisfied with her work.

"Well, the whole year has been very disappointing to be honest with you, but what can you do," said Davies, adding: "There is always a tomorrow. It will be interesting if I can finish off the season with a strong finish," Davies, who remains the only player to have played in all 11 Solheim Cup events.

Known for her uncanny wit and humour, Davies has her own nonchalant approach to the game. "Everyone goes on about all this fitness but golf is just walking and swinging a club," she said.

"I don’t buy into it at all. If you don’t think I can walk 36 holes a day because I’m 45, I think you’re wrong," added Laura who is also the ninth player in LPGA Tour history to surpass the $8 million mark in earnings.

Commented Mohamed Buamaim, vice-chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi: "She is still giving the younger players a run for their money and that speaks volumes of her talent and her determination to stay on top.

"Laura will bring in a wealth of experience to the tournament and her performance will inspire and encourage more youngsters to take to golf. I wish Laura and all other players a very pleasant stay in Dubai."

’golf in DUBAi’ is backed by Omega as the title sponsor and DUBAL as the sponsor while Emirates NBD, wasl, Jumeirah Hotels, Emirates Airline, BMW, Jumeirah Golf Estates, Gulf News, MasterCard and CNN are partners in its drive to showcase the emirate’s vibrant golfing scene to a worldwide audience.
