Dubai Metro has broken the 3 million passengers’ barrier according to statistics compiled by Rail Agency at Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) which revealed that metro ridership has hit 3,492,175 passengers lifted in two months from the start of operation on 10 stations on the Red Line on 09/09/09 up to 09/11/09.

According to Ramadan Abdullah, Director of Rail Operation Dep’t at RTA Rail Agency, Mall of the Emirates Station led all other stations in terms of passengers lifted during the above two months’ period where 607,775 passengers boarded the train, with an increase rate of 17%, followed by Khalid bin Al Waleed Station (507,196 passengers with a 14% increase), Ittihad Station (437,017 with a 12% increase), Al Rashidiya Station (400,303 passengers with 11% increase), Nakheel Harbour & Tower Station (357,934 passengers with 10% increase), Deira City Center Station (343,129 passengers with 10% increase), Financial Center Station (288,220 passengers with an 8% increase), Rigga Station (241,389 passengers with a 7% increase), Jafliya Station (177,278 passengers with a 5% increase, and Airport Terminal 3 Station (131,934 passengers with a 4% increase).

Ramadan called on Metro users not to rush to take the ride on the metro, and read the guidelines prepared by Rail Agency specialists which aim at the safety of all passengers. He specifically cautioned them against congesting before the train doors as it is a key factor underlying the delay in the traffic of passenger boarding and alighting the metro.

“The success of the Metro is a real success of Dubai City and the bustling passenger traffic. What we see today is a testament to the urban drive witnessed by Dubai city in all fields capped by Dubai Metro; which attracted many commuters to use it as key mobility mode. It also contributed to easing traffic congestion and lower pollution levels from vehicles and motorbikes, preserving the environment and creating a fun travel atmosphere” concluded Ramadan.
