The Dubai Airport Freezone is No. 1 among the 18 Free Zones in the UAE in terms of import export activity, according to a study by a UN organization.

According to a briefing by Mohammed Suwailem, Sales Director of the Dubai Airport Freezone to visiting business management and marketing students from Sharjah University, the Dubai Airport Freezone contributed by 1.28% and 2.15% in Dubai’s GDP in 2006 and 2007 respectively, according to economists of the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consultations (GOIC).

The GOIC report stated that ‘Due to the reasonable number of companies working in the Dubai Airport Freezone (1500), in comparison to those in Dubai, as a whole, the contribution of the Freezone in GDP seems to be substantive’.

The students were impressed by the Freezone’s achievement of being the No. 1 Free Zone in the UAE with the highest import export record per square metre.

The Dubai Airport Freezone was established by the Government of Dubai to play a key role in enhancing the economic position of Dubai globally and contribute to national economic growth (GDP).

The Dubai Airport Freezone over the years has continuously occupied the first place among all free zones operating in Dubai in terms of generating import/export per square meter, competing and complimenting with other free zone in the country.

Mr. Suwailem added “A study conducted in 2006 by Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) which belongs to the World Bank revealed that Dubai Airport Freezone exceeded other free zones in the Middle East and North Africa by 5.45 % in providing encouraging investment opportunities.”

“All these results wouldn’t have been achieved without sound strategy & commitment to lead and quest for excellence,” said Mr. Suwailem.

He explained that at the Dubai Airport Freezone, the positive results were achieved by a sound methodology and implementation of a three-year corporate strategy which is monitored carefully with key performance indicators...
The students were impressed by the Freezone’s achiement. They were accompanied on the visit and tour of some multinational companies at the Dubai Airport Freezone by Dr. Rabia Naguib, Assistant Professor at the Department of Management Marketing at Sharjah University and Dr. Souad Sherif, Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics, Sharjah University.
