The US Consul General in Dubai, Mr. Justin Siberell, yesterday visited the art exhibition organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development to mark the 38th UAE National Day. The exhibition, which features paintings from the personal collection of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is being held at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) and will continue for 38 days.
The Consul General who was accompanied by other members of the consular corps and officials from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, took time to examine the paintings in detail and was briefed about the background and meaning of the artistic creations. The collection consists of 38 selected masterpieces from leading artists drawn from across the Arab region, who have made significant contributions to the world of Arab and international visual art.
“Exhibitions like these are an ideal way to spread cultural awareness and understanding”, Mr. Siberell said after his tour. “It is remarkable that the UAE, despite being a young country that is renowned for its rapid modernization and growth, attaches such importance to its heritage. The fact that the exhibition is being held at the DIFC – a venue that represents the modern commercial aspects of the UAE - reflects the leadership’s vision to promote the development of a balanced, all-round society that is both progressive and true to its heritage,” he added.
Later a delegation of senior officials from the Ministry of Environment led by Dr. Maryam Al Shenasi, Executive Director, Technical Affairs also toured the exhibition and appreciated the range and quality of the exhibits.
Originally scheduled to run through till the end of the National Day celebrations, the tenure of the exhibition has been extended to 38 days in order to enable a larger number of people to view and appreciate the artistic value of what are some of the region’s artistic treasures. The exhibition has been drawing a great response over the past few days, with a large number of people drawn from across the wide spectrum of the population taking the opportunity to admire the exhibits.
