The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has announced its support to the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships 2010, that runs until December 19 at the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports Complex in Dubai.
Hamad Bin Mejren, Executive Director of Business Tourism at DTCM, said: “DTCM is excited to support the World Swimming Championships 2010, which we are certain will prove to be a resounding success. DTCM together with Dubai Convention Bureau is one of the seven national sponsors for this prestigious event and we are keen on supporting a sport like swimming which is a highly popular activity in the UAE.”
“The fact that these championships in Dubai are set to be the biggest, both in terms of the number of athletes and also participating countries in the history of the event, speaks volumes of Dubai’s global appeal as an excellent venue to stage high profile sporting events. This perfectly complements the Emirate’s already established image as a premier destination for leisure and business,” he added.
The championships are taking place at the state-of-the-art Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports Complex on the Dubai Bypass Road. The Championships are set to be the biggest in FINA’s history, with more than 700 of the world’s best athletes from over 139 countries coming to Dubai to take part in five days of top-class racing.
The Dubai Convention Bureau is the MICE dedicated section of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing. DCB is dedicated to pursue and win events for Dubai and to promote Dubai both nationally and internationally as a leading MICE destination.
The Events Department has also set up a 300 sq meter display area at the venue of the swimming championships where it is showcasing UAE’s culture, heritage, traditional foods, music and handicrafts.
Nasser Juma, DTCM Head of Cultural Events and in-charge of the cultural showcase at the World Swimming Championships, said that DTCM is keen on showcasing Emirati culture and hospitality to the hundreds of international athletes and guests.
