The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), which remained committed to making Dubai the most-friendly destination for the People with Special Needs, provided recreational opportunity for People with Special Needs to enjoy the DSF-2012 festivities at its Heritage and Diving villages in Al Shindagha.

Mr. Anwar Al Hanai, Director of Heritage Village, said the Middle East’s popular heritage complex hosted two groups of People with Special Needs and provided them the opportunity to explore the sights and sounds of the DSF-2012 programmes and also take part in various competitions and activities that takes place daily between 5 pm and 10 pm. The two groups of 150 People with Special Needs were from various nationalities and age groups.

The groups were welcomed by the DTCM officials including Mr. Nasser Juma, Director of Diving Village, and Mr. Khalid bin Gharib, Director of Hatta Heritage Village. Mr. Khalid bin Gharib said the community service has remained a pillar of DTCM’s social work in the emirate and the visit of these groups reflects its close working with the community and its caring commitment.

The visitors toured the various facilities at the Al Shindagha complex and were briefed about various activities and programmes lined up by the DTCM for this year’s edition of DSF. The groups enjoyed the folkloric dances and music in addition to various cultural programmes and traditional heritage games.

The visitors, some of them on wheel-chairs, also enjoyed a mock traditional souq and the antics of a door-to-door salesman of the yore. The group members were provided with souvenirs by the DTCM.

As many as 27 major activities are being conducted at the Al Shindagha heritage sites complex, while the Hatta Heritage Village hosts more than a dozen entertainment activities highlighting various aspects of Emirati culture and traditions.

Al Shindagha complex offers visitors a splendid set of old maps exhibiting urban growth of Dubai in the last century, desert life, traditional Arabian homes, mosques, fishing, farming, dhow building, pearl diving and every-day trading. Colorful and suggestive dioramas complete with life-size figures and sound and lighting effects illustrate life in Dubai’s old days.

The Heritage Village focuses on the UAE’s maritime past, trading activities and local history. The heritage sites in Shindagha comprise genuinely restored and fully equipped structures, representing traditional life in the UAE. The purpose of the sites is to safeguard the culture and architectural heritage of Dubai to ensure that present and future generations have an opportunity to celebrate their heritage.

At the Hatta Heritage Village, visitors will be able to watch Bedouin traditions, arts and crafts and hospitality.
