OMEGA’s newest ambassador Shanshan Feng proved why she is ranked among the world’s top players as she pulled off a brilliant display to win the 2012 OMEGA Dubai Ladies Masters Golf Tournament. Feng closed with an outstanding 267, with 21 under par for the tournament while she dominated the leaderboard throughout all four days of the tournament. She also broke the previous tournament record of 18 under par held by Annika Sorenstam (Sweden) in 2006 and Kyung Kim (South Korea) in 2009.
Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai presented Feng with the trophy. She also received the first prize of 75,000 euros and was awarded the OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra Co- Axial 34mm in 18K red gold on a leather strap.
Shanshan Feng is one of the most exciting professional golfers in the world. She became the first full-exempt player from China to join the LPGA Tour and in the years since, has emerged as one of the Tour’s fiercest competitors. In 2012, the talented 23-year-old won the LPGA Championship, a major title, by two strokes, becoming the first Chinese golfer to win a major– in fact, she was the first player from mainland China, male or female, to accomplish the feat.
During the four days of the tournament OMEGA hosted a number of activities at their VIP hospitality chalet - a luncheon for women golfers from the Emirates Golf Club and Dubai Creek Club, a lunch for the media and autograph sessions with their ambassadors Michelle Wie and Shanshan Feng.
OMEGA and Golf – a global legacy
For years, golf sponsorship has been a vital part of OMEGA’s brand strategy and the famous watchmaker’s name is associated with some of the sport’s best events. OMEGA’s partnership with The PGA of America makes the Swiss watch brand the Official Timekeeper at the Association’s great events including the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup when it is contested in the United States.
OMEGA is the title sponsor of the European Masters, contested each year in Switzerland, and of both the Dubai Desert Classic and the Dubai Ladies Masters, two of the most prestigious sporting events in the Middle East.
OMEGA will be on hand as Official Timekeeper in 2016 when golf returns to the Olympic Games for the first time in more than a century. Its inclusion in the world’s highest-profile sporting event boldly proclaims that golf is truly ranked among the world’s global sports.
OMEGA Dubai Ladies Masters
