One of the European Golf Tour’s most eagerly awaited tournaments, the annual OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic, will tee off on January 28th at the Emirates Golf Club, bringing world-class golf to Dubai for the 23rd year. OMEGA resumes its title sponsorship in 2013, reinforcing its long-standing relationship with Dubai Desert Classic and support of golfing excellence here in the UAE and around the world.
“The OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic continues to be a high-calibre event for loyal golf fans in Dubai and internationally,” said Raynald Aeschlimann, Vice President and International Sales Director of OMEGA. He added, “The OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic has immense international appeal and it continues to grow in stature year by year, making it one of the most prestigious golfing events in both Dubai and the region.”
This year’s OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic is proud to announce two of Omega’s own golfing ambassadors, Sergio Garcia of Spain and Korean star SY Noh, will join many of the world’s top- ranked stars, including defending champion Spaniard Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Lee Westwood of England, who are also competing in the strong line-up.
OMEGA is one of the most prominent watch brands in the world, with a history and tradition of promoting the sport of golf. OMEGA plays a crucial role in making golf a truly global sport and its title sponsorships include the OMEGA European Masters played each September in Switzerland. In 2011, OMEGA entered into a partnership with The PGA of America as a patron of the world’s largest professional sporting organisation. It provides the tournament watch and serves as official timekeeper at The PGA Championship, one of golf’s four “Majors”, and the Ryder Cup when it is contested in the United States.
The OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic has been part of the European Tour since its inception in 1989. This year the appearance of golfing superstar Sergio Garcia also marks the 10th anniversary of his partnership as an Omega brand ambassador.
“With a global reputation built on technological innovation and design excellence, OMEGA has been proud to be involved in the timekeeping and sponsorship of many of the world’s international sporting events that included the London Olympics last year. The OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic is growing tremendously and we are proud to be associated with them as a title sponsor.” said Nayla Hayek, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Swatch Group.
The winner’s watch: an OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra
The winner of this year’s OMEGA Dubai Desert Classic will claim not only the tournament’s championship trophy and cheque, but also an extraodinary timepiece crafted by the tournament’s title sponsor, OMEGA.
The OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra is presented with an 18 Ct red gold case and a brown leather strap. Its 18 Ct red gold central hour markers are coated with white Super-LumiNova so the watch is readable in all lighting conditions.
What is inside the 43 mm case is every bit as impressive: the watch is equipped with OMEGA’s exclusive Co-Axial calibre 8611, one of the movements that signalled a revolution in the way mechanical wristwatches are being made. Its offcial certification as a chronometer is a testimony to its outstanding timekeeping performance.
The Co-Axial calibre 8611 is equipped with an annual calendar complication so it only has to be adjusted once a year, on the first of March. The movement is fitted with an Si 14 silicon balance spring. The stability and reliability of the combination of the Co-Axial movement and the silicon balance spring is such that the Seamaster Aqua Terra is delivered with a four-year warranty.
The Aqua Terra Co-Axial Annual Calendar features a sapphire caseback which makes it possible to watch the movement in action and to marvel at its exquisite detail. It is water-resistant to 15 bar (150 metres/500 feet).
