(17 February 2013)

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed an agreement with the Emirates NBD, the leading banking group in the region, whereby the RTA will transport more than 1,300 of the Bank’s employees from their domiciles in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman to their workplaces and vice versa. The contract is valid for a period of three years, and the service provision will commence as of 1st March 2013.

The Agreement was signed on behalf of the RTA by HE Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA; and on behalf of the Emirates NBD by HE Hisham Al Qasim, Vice Chairman of the Emirates NBD. The signing was attended by Eisa Abdul Rahman Al Dosari, CEO of Public Transport Agency; Rick Pudner, CEO of Emirates NBD; and Abdullah Al Qasim, CEO of the Group’s Operations at Emirates NBD; in addition to a host of officials from both sides.

Al Tayer reiterated RTA’s commitment to diffuse the best practices and applications of mobility management programs to contribute to easing traffic congestion and reducing the number of trips made by private vehicles. He renewed RTA’s keenness on solving the problems of parking in the vicinity of public & private entities, and urging community members to use mass transit modes owing to the benefits accruing to the environment, economy, and the community, besides alleviating the psychological and physical pressures experienced daily by the staff who battle their way for hours amid traffic congestion. “This step is set to have positive bearing on employees’ productivity, performance and efficiency, and ensure their timely attendance to workplaces," he continued.

Al Tayer was delighted with the signing of the Agreement with the Emirates NBD Group for lifting the bank’s employees between their dwelling places in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman and their workplaces. The Public Transport Agency will designate 45 buses to serve 1,300 bank employees in 2,200 trips per month over more than 50 routes. He indicated that the Agreement culminated the assiduous efforts of the RTA to provide shuttle service to employees where it has already signed an agreement to lift employees of Emirates Airlines Group via public buses from & to their workplaces and homes in Dubai.

For his part, Hisham Al Qasim, Vice Chairman of Emirates NBD, expressed his pleasure with the joint cooperation between the Bank and the RTA, a leading transport service providers in the United Arab Emirates. "This agreement marks a new milestone in the efforts of the Emirates NBD to provide world-class transit services to its employees, who are considered the human capital of the bank. The move, will also boost the bus shuttle service which has been on offer to the Bank’s employees since 2009," said Al Qasim.

"The Bank’s Transport Management Team has cooperated closely with the RTA to ensure that RTA’s service will incorporate all current mass transit service subscribers. Offering this new bus service reiterates once again the Bank’s keenness to provide a clean, economical environment,” continued the Vice Chairman of Emirates NBD.

"The bus service in the Emirates NBD," he added, "currently operates 78 buses daily plying 16 different areas. Out of its commitment to preserve the environment, the Group is rightly guided to opt for the RTA to run this transportation services as it offers world-class transport services using eco-friendly buses, as all RTA bus fleet is fitted with engines (Euro 5) that use diesel with zero smoke emissions and support the reduction of carbon footprint strategy. Moreover, the RTA uses a specialist electronic journey planner that helps avoid traffic congestion."
