It’s Time For A Treat Once Again At Burjuman

Full details of 12-day program which will feature sizzling dishes, master classes, fun contests for food lovers and the Junior Chef of the Year competition


 

Foodies in Dubai can look forward to the start of asizzling array of culinary events next weekwith the organisers of ‘Treat’– the BurJuman World Food Fest2013 announcing the schedule of activities forthe festival’s much anticipated second edition.

After the runaway success of its first edition last year, the festival, which runs from May 14th-25th this year, features free masterclasses, cooking demos, competitions, exciting rewards and delicious free samplings of a variety of cuisines. From May 14th to 18th, dining enthusiasts, aspiring chefs, families and foodies will all have an extended and interactive opportunity to learn about the various aspects of fine dining from celebrity chefs and leading industry experts at no cost at all. Then from May 19th to 25th, Treat will conclude with the competition for the BurJuman Junior Chef of the Year Award, which will help discover and recognise the best emerging culinary talents in the region.

“Audience involvement is the best feature of Treat. The festival is a highly interactive event and all those who appreciate great food and the whole concept of fine dining will be able to get high quality culinary instruction for free, especialy with the involvement of top quality chefs such as Sanjeev Kapoor. And with Teka providing a great high-tech kitchen set-up again this year with state-of-the-art appliances and the latest, most innovative equipment, all our eager participants will be able to cook just like the pros,” saysAbbasa Hameed, Marketing Support Manager, BurJuman.

Chef Kapoor is just one of the highlights of Treat’s packed agenda this year, which includes a number of different events and activities. From May 14th to 18th, daily themed masterclasses and cooking demos will be held by chefs from some of the best hotelsin Dubai, such as Rotana;Dubai Marriott Hotels; Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah; Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Deira Creek and Meliá Dubai.

Starting off the mouth-watering schedule will be super celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor who will share his culinary secrets and tips – as well as his delectable Indian dishes – with guests in two celebrity masterclasses at 5:00pm and 7:00pm and a live cooking demo at 6:00pm on May 14th, the first day of Treat. For 12 lucky Treat guests, there will be a chance of being selected for an exclusive opportunity to cook live with Chef Kapoor as he recreates the dishes that have won over palates across the globe as well as here in Dubai at his restaurant,Signature,at the Melia Dubai.

The next day of Treat will see chefs from the Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah, share their scrumptious seafood secrets in masterclasses and demos, while Thursday, May 16,will have the best showcase of Eastern and Western culinary traditions as the chefs from Radisson Blu demonstrate the finer points of Modern German and Vietnamese cuisines.

Wednesday, May 15th, will also be dedicated to those with a sweet tooth. A Sweet Treat Buffet, open from 7pm-9pm for will present 50 varieties of delectable desserts created by Chef Robin and his team from Dubai’s Seaview Hotel with the spread expected to feature a number of tempting creations. The Sweet Treat Buffet will be available for AED20.

The sweetness will spill over to Friday, May 17th, with a Grand Cupcake Sale hosted by Kitsch Cupcakes from 6pm-9pm. All signature flavours of the popular cupcake brand will be sold at giveaway prices and the main attraction will be a Tower of Cupcakesbuil

Kitsch Cupcakes will also hold a daily My Little Cupcakes Workshop(May 14th - 18th from 4pm-9pm) where kids will be able to learn the art of easy cupcake decoration after which they can head home with a special certificate and takeaway balloons.There’ll also be more delicious Kitsch cupcakes and a chance to buy a copy of the company’s co-founder Dalia Dogmoch’s new cookbook available at the stand.

To balance out the flavours, the chefs from the Villa, Rimal and Rihab Rotana hotels will lead gourmands through master classes and live demos of Continental and Arabic cusine on Friday May 17th, making it only apt that a chef from the home-grown Rotana hotels demonstrates the delights and variety of the Arabic kitchen.

Saturday, May 18th, will see the pace picking up at BurJuman with the The Great Treat Recipe competition exclusively for listerners of Channel 4, providing an amazing opportunity for fans of the radio network to cook their own personal “Best Recipes” and bring them in to BurJuman for judging by a top culinary professional from the Emirates Culinary Guild. The winning dish will be declared The Great Treat Recipe and their makers will win prizes that include 5 couple dining vouchers at the participating 5-Star Hotels of Treat 2013.Those too lazy to stir up a storm at home on a Saturday, however, will find plenty to tickle their taste buds as the chefs from the Dubai Marriott Hotels stir up favourites from the ever-popular repertoire of Italian cuisine in masterclasses and demos.

Competitions will run every day as well at Treat 2013 with exciting prizes on offer. Speed of hand will be the deciding factor in the daily Minute to Win It competitions as guests try to outdo each other at common kitchen activities such as peeling oranges, or uncommon ones like showing their dexterity with chopsticks or sucking up M&Ms with straws – all in one minute. Noses and taste buds will be put to the test in another daily competition, Guess the Ingredient, where contestants will have to identify spices and condiments blindfolded.

Treat will conclude with the highly anticipated BurJuman Junior Chef 2013 competitionfrom May 19th – 25th. Organised in conjunction with the Emirates Culinary Guild – the undisputed authority in the UAE on the culinary industry – the guild’s long-standing history of identifying and sourcing high quality culinary talent will help discover the region’s next star of haute gastronomy.
