Dubai International Airport Takes "Summer Is Dubai" Campaign To City’s Doorstep With Celebrations Marking Dubai Summer Surprises
(12 June 2013)
Terminals 1 and 3 set the mood for three-month long summer ’Summer is Dubai’ campaign with activities and promotions for travelers from around the world.

Dubai is laying out the red carpet for visitors by bringing the Dubai Summer Surprises celebrations right to the city’s airport during the long season of festivities and fun this summer, as a part of the “Summer is Dubai” campaign.

Starting from June 14th, Terminals 1 and 3 of Dubai International Airport is being transformed into veritable fun fare venues with roaming performers, stage acts, clowns, bands, photographic exhibitions and more that are sure to delight visitors of all ages. Coupled with gifts and giveaways, festive decorations and appearances by Modhesh – the ever popular mascot of the Dubai summer – the airport will set the tone for enjoyment among visitors arriving in Dubai all summer.

The promotional activities at the airport will focus on tourists of all nationalities, especially those from the GCC, with a special concentration on children and families. Entertainment and festivities will be the focus and the events will be run at various times to coincide with the Dubai Summer Surprises, Modhesh World, Ramadan in Dubai and Eid in Dubai, which together comprise this year’s unprecedented three-month long “Summer is Dubai” umbrella campaign being rolled out by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

From June 14th, the airport promotions will start with presenting the delights of the DSS - the first event of “Summer is Dubai”. The airport’s Terminals 1 and 3 will come alive with roaming musicians and performers giving impromptu performances in the passenger halls. Clowns and balloon benders will spread cheer among visitors and passengers, and their surroundings are sure to resonate with whoops of joy from children, many of whom are also expected to sport fancy artwork on their faces courtesy a face painting workshop in the terminals. Meanwhile, waiting for flights can be turned into a time to pick up new skills at an in-terminal Origami workshop - or even a time to view variety entertainment shows at a small stage set up inside the terminal buildings, complete with sound and lighting equipment. And, to give a traditional twist to proceedings, a heritage Arabic hospitality tent complete with the best dates, coffee and other symbols of hospitality, will be a prominent feature of the terminals.

The Arabic hospitality tent will continue to be a major draw at Terminals 1 and 3 as the season moves into the holy month. “Ramadan in Dubai” will see calligraphers display their skills in the age old Arabic art of fine, artistic writing while a story teller enthralls kids with a repertoire of traditional and modern tales. As the end of Ramadan ushers in festive celebrations, “Eid in Dubai” will see the airport terminals basking in the joy of the biggest festival in the Islamic calendar. Musicians, clowns, balloon benders, kids’ workshops and stage shows will spread this joy among visitors and families from all over the world at Terminals 1 and 3, while a traditional band will delight passengers with musical interludes from the vast riches of Arabic music, even as henna artists provide in-transit decorative enhancements to women travelers.

With the biggest focus being on children in all of “Summer is Dubai” throughout the city, the airport terminals will be no exception. Cuddly, lovable Modhesh - the icon of the summer season in Dubai - will visit Terminal 3 on June 26, following up on an earlier visit on June 7. Terminal 1, meanwhile, will be cheered by the bright yellow character’s presence on June 16 and August 14. With an entourage comprising jugglers and other performers, Modhesh will make three appearances at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm on each day of his visits, transforming Dubai International Airport into a fun zone for kids.

With such an extensive line-up of activities to amuse children, grown-ups need not feel left out. Throughout the season, prizes and giveaways will be distributed to lucky guests chosen randomly from travelers arriving at Terminals 1 and 3. Around 40,000 gifts from 10 top international consumer brands will be given away along with sweets and confectionary, making “Summer is Dubai” a winning season for passengers using Dubai International Airport.

Visual treats in and around the airport will also delight travelers and reflect the mood of the city. Terminal 3 will host a photographic exhibition comprising images of Dubai in all its year-round celebratory moods and hues, as well as its landmarks and special sights. Beautiful lights and artistic installations will dress up the airport’s concourses, approach roads and general environs, lending a feeling of festive joy and celebration to one and all.
